Please give us the 1-minute elevator speech about your show:
Absolute Magic is an interactive magic show featuring mind-bending magic and storytelling It features the trick that put me in the hospital and how I got to perform at a Stanley Cup party for the Detroit Red Wings before I could even drive a car. It has fun for the whole family. I have been doing magic longer than I haven’t (16 years) and I do it because I love it. Hopefully you enjoy it just as much as I do.
Who is involved in putting your show together?
It’s a one man show but it’s not a one man job. Normally I tour with my amazing stage manager Stephanie Taylor (also, a uWindsor grad) but I am flying solo this year. I would say my friends, family and any audience I’ve ever put this show in front of because I learn something every time.
Tell us about yourself:
I am 26 years old. I graduated from uWindsor with a double major in Dramatic Art and Communications, Media & Film. I have performed in 22 countries and counting. This is my 5th consecutive summer touring my show on the Fringe circuit. This Windsor-Walkerville Fringe will be my 27th festival I have performed in. The Fringe has taken me to London, Ottawa, Montreal, Windsor, Toronto, Regina, Winnipeg, Edmonton, Vancouver, Orlando, Fresno and Reykjavik in Iceland.
I got my first job as a magician performing in a pub in my hometown of London, Ontario at the age of 13.
Is this your first Fringe production?
It will be my 27th
What does Fringe mean to you?
Fringe is my family to me. I have met so many incredible people from all over the world. Fringe to me means opportunity. I have had the good fortune to travel all around the world because of it. I have gotten to meet so many incredible performers and patrons that have become friends and family.
To me Fringe is an incredible opportunity that levels the playing field and provides established and emerging artists with the vehicle to present their work to the public. It gives people a voice. It gives them a chance to let their stories be heard.
I know that I would not be the artist, the magician, the person I am today without Fringe. It has provided me with so much that I just hope that I can give just as much back to it.
Aside from Fringe, what are you up to this year?
This year, I had the opportunity to participate in a Habitat for Humanity build in Zambia, Africa that was a life changing experience.
I will be performing at theatre festival in Glen Falls, NY in August as well as a Summer Works production in Toronto. In September, I will be bringing my show to the Vancouver Fringe. In December, I will be doing a one off at the Astor Theatre in Liverpool, NS. From November to January, I will be performing at corporate holiday events across Canada. I will also be running corporate workshops on High Impact Presentation skills.
