Love and loss. A shadow grows in Bruce’s mind. Isolation has caused him to retreat within himself and question if he’ll ever see light again. Meeting a new potential love that reaches out to help, he now finds himself at a crossroad. Once You’ve Found It performs at the Windsor-Walkerville Fringe Festival in 2018.
Either he expresses his feelings or succumbs to his inner darkness. Memories of his grandmother’s life lessons provide guidance, but doubt overpowers him. Through reflection he must confront his shadows or risk losing the light in his life. We’re taken on a journey through storytelling, mask, movement and media that paint a portrait of Bruce’s innerworkings. He knows what will save him, but will he overcome himself to embrace life?
“Once You’ve Found It” is Donovan Jackson’s premiere solo production. Started in 2015, Donovan has been developing the piece by presenting at several Fringe Festivals across Canada; Island, Fundy, Atlantic, and Winnipeg. He has also presented different pieces multiple times in the InspiraTO Festival, a festival of ten-minute plays, in Toronto.
Originally from Winnipeg, Donovan moved to Toronto in 2012 to further his development in the performing arts. Shortly after the move, he became a recurring company member with Ismailova Theatre of Dance, a company that annually creates original dance theatre. His development in movement and his knowledge of devised theatre were all tools used to begin creation of “Once You’ve Found It”.
Please give us the 1-minute elevator speech about your show:
Love and loss. A shadow grows in Bruce’s mind. Isolation has caused him to fall into a depressive state, causing him to question if he’ll ever see light again. Meeting a new potential love that reaches out to help, he now finds himself at a crossroad. Either he expresses his feelings or succumbs to his inner darkness. Memories of his grandmother’s life lessons provide guidance, but doubt overpowers him. Through reflection, he must confront his shadows or risk losing the light in his life. We’re taken on a journey through storytelling, mask, movement and media that paint a portrait of Bruce’s inner-workings. He knows what will save him, but will he overcome himself to embrace life?
