Judith Thompson, the award-winning playwright and author of University Players’ current production of Lion in the Streets, is coming to to the University of Windsor following the March 9 performance of the 8 pm show in the Hatch Studio Theatre. Thompson will join the cast on stage in a public discussion about the playwright and her powerful piece.
Thompson is a playwright, screenwriter, activist, actor and professor. She is renowned in Canada – and around the world – for dramas which link the daily realities of ordinary (sometimes marginalized) people with worlds of the imagination. She is a recipient of the Governor General’s Award, the Chalmers Award, the Walter Carsen Prize for Excellence in the Performing Arts, the Susan Smith Blackburn Award and the Amnesty International Award, as well as the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Medal in 2012.
Along with Lion in the Streets, her plays include The Crackwalker, I Am Yours, Perfect Pie, Palace of the End and Watching Glory Die. She is also the author of the feature films Lost and Delirious and Perfect Pie, as well as several made-for-television films.
Tickets must be purchased to the March 9th performance of Lion in the Streets to obtain seating for the Judith Thompson discussion with the cast. Lion in the Streets runs March 3 to 12 in the Hatch Studio Theatre. Tickets are $8-$22.
Audience members will also be invited to ask questions.
