When singer/songwriter Jason Mercer headed to Nashville in late February to record his debut single with Grammy-winning producer Mitch Dane, he was excited…beyond words. He sure wasn’t expecting that the next morning, he would wake up to find the beloved music city torn apart by a tornado, or for a world pandemic to hit shortly after his return to Canada, but that’s exactly what happened.
It has been quite the ride for the singer/songwriter in the last year and a bit. Following a major back surgery, the loss of his father and then the downslide of the entertainment industry since the covid 19 pandemic began, the full-time musician decided to just continue pushing forward and to get the music he’s been working on tirelessly, out to the world.
‘Nobody But You’ was released to Canadian country radio on October 19th.
“It’s time,” Mercer said. “As an artist, I’ve dreamed of this moment all of my life. I am so proud of this song, the recording, and the upcoming video. It has been an interesting journey, followed by the most incredible and satisfying feeling.”
The single, ‘Nobody But You’ features Mercer’s sweet yet gritty sounding vocals. Accompanied with a unique sounding band and a fantastic organ section that somehow sounds new, yet feels nostalgic like many of Mercer’s influences like The Band, Tom Petty, or Canadian icons Blue Rodeo.
The song, co-written by Mercer is filled with honest lyrics that make you relive loves of old, new flames, good or bad. Its up-tempo groove and hook-filled melodies make it a hit and repeat kind of jam.
“It’s everything I hoped for and more” Mercer noted. “I hope people enjoy it as much as I do.”
‘Nobody But You’ is available on all digital platforms and the video will be released in the coming weeks. Request it at country radio across Canada now and visit www.jasonmercermusic.com for updates. Next year will be the 20th anniversary with a grand celebration already being planned.
