Tell us about your career, including your history, where you are from and how you started?
My artist name is Paidinblues. I was born and raised in Detroit, and I started writing songs in elementary school. I started taking music seriously and was introduced to one of my friend’s home studios after high school in 2016, and I fell in love with the way I sounded and the way the music made me feel. So, I kept going, and my love for music grew deeper. I chose this path, and I’m sticking with it until the world is vibing and playing my music everywhere.
How did you come up with your artist name?
I came up with my artist name PaidInBlues because I love money and music, as well as my favorite movie “Paid in Full” gave me an idea to add things I love. I decided to stay a solo artist because, in the movie Paid in Full, everyone ends up alone in the end. I want longevity in the game, and I can give myself the opportunity. This is also part of my creative process, including self-motivation to put in the work to become a professional recording artist.
Do you have any recorded music available for fans?
Yes, I sure do. I have a few songs currently out on streaming sites such as Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. I am currently writing new music, listening to instrumentals from beat makers in both the United States and Canada, and getting ready to hit the studio and record amazing new music.
How would you describe your music?
My music is very relatable to people who go through similar real-life situations that we all experience on a daily basis. It gives off a storytelling vibe.
What makes your music stand out from others?
My music stands out from others because I have a sound that you don’t regularly hear in my hometown of Detroit. I can sing a hook and verse that will fit well with the beat. I’m great at telling stories within my songs as well. Ironically, I have had situations where people think I am a street hip hop artist when, in actual fact, my sound is a very distinctive RnB sound representing a new era of The Motor City of Detroit.
What do you like to do outside of music that contributes to your music?
I like spending quality time laughing as well as making people laugh and feeling good about life. I also enjoy spending time with my family. My family is my strength that gives me the inspiration to write and create this type of music so I can create a better life for them. I also love listening to the legends of Detroit, from The Motown legends such as The Temptations, The Four Tops, and The Supremes as an example, as well as many other legends.
Name your two biggest musical influences and why?
My biggest music influences are Kanye and Drake. I chose these two out of so many others because Kanye reminds me of myself. He goes for what he wants, and Drake is such an inspiration with his talent as an artist, yet he is also an inspiration with his business side of things. Meek Mill as well because he can create any type of style of music, and it still sounds great, and I want to be able to release songs that people will remember forever like them.
Who writes your songs? What are the main themes or topics of most of your songs?
I write the lyrics to all of my songs or sometimes record a freestyle first try and can create a banger song in just minutes. My music is about what it’s like living in the struggle, what goes on in our everyday lives, and giving out a message that anyone can make it with confidence, consistency, and hard work.
What has been your biggest challenge and how have you been able to overcome that challenge?
My biggest challenge used to be believing in myself. I had to learn how to think and change the way I approach any situation with confidence, but still be humble about it and always be myself and feel good being myself. As I am managed by Mr. Adrian Swish, a key member of the well-known Alumni Music Group in Los Angeles, who believes in me, that really helps boost my confidence. Jammin and his team up in London, Ontario, Canada, from The Network brand, are my Public Relations team. It also helps my self-confidence knowing that I have industry people who believe in me, which is a rewarding blessing.
What current projects are you working on at the moment?
I’m working on a few singles dropping soon and an album hoping to be completed by the end of summer or early autumn 2022.
