Mix a Hitchcock masterpiece with a juicy spy novel, add a dash of Monty Python and you have the intriguing, thrilling, riotous and unmissable comedy The 39 Steps. In its next production, University Players will present the Patrick Barlow adaption for a run of fun and laughs from Nov. 24 to Dec. 3.
The show hurtles a notorious fugitive and a spellbound blonde from a London music hall north by northwest to Scotland’s most remote highlands. Will they save Britain from a den of devious spies? A cast of four actors plays over 150 characters in this fast-paced tale of an ordinary man on an extraordinarily entertaining adventure. The 39 Steps contains every single legendary scene from the award-winning movie — including the chase on the Flying Scotsman, the escape on the Forth Bridge, the first theatrical bi-plane crash ever staged and the sensational death-defying finale in the London Palladium.
Director Kelly Daniels describes the production as “a great time at the theatre. Theatrically, it is absolutely magical and delightful. It’s all of the elements of theatre coming together to produce some really creative and imaginative storytelling. At this time of the year and the chaos of the world, we could all use a fabulous laugh!”

Performances from Wednesday to Saturday start at 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday matinee performances are at 2 p.m. On Sunday Nov. 26, a “Talk Back” discussion with the actors will follow the performance.
