Canadian country music sensation Gord Bamford is on the road across Canada with his first ever stop in Windsor #YQG on Friday (January 26) at the Chrysler Theatre. The singer/songwriter is promoting his latest album Neon Smoke.
“It’s a great album for me,” Bamford told YQG Rocks as he prepared for the tour that begins in Brampton tomorrow night (January 24). “I wanted to have an album that was full of strong material and some really great songs. It’s been in the works for about a year and a half from start to finish, so it’s something I’ve been invested in for a while. I think we really brought a fresh, new sound to this album and I’m really proud of the results.”
The 15-song album features the hits Livin’ On Summertime, Ain’t It Grand and Neon Smoke. It’s packed with stunning tracks and a very deep and emotional production, which Bamford enhanced with guest appearances by US country star Tracy Lawrence and Blue Rodeo singer Jim Cuddy.
“I’ve known Jim for a long time – we’ve been friends for years,” Bamford said of his album guests. “One night I just sat with Jim and we talked about him being on the album and it went from there. I met Tracy on tour and just asked if he’d be interested in singing with me and I was surprised when he said yes. Jim is on the song Ain’t That Grand and Tracy joins me on The Out Crowd. It’s always great when friends and singers of Tracy’s caliber want to join you.”
The album was recorded in Calgary in Bamford’s home province of Alberta. He’s an authentic country boy who moved from Australia to a farm in Lacombe, Alta. when he was 5-years-old and quickly developed a love of country music. Aside from a two-year stint in Tennessee, Alberta has been and will mostly likely always be his home – so much so, the singer is building a lakeside dream home at an estate property on Buffalo Lake in the central region of the province.
“With the home being built and the kids being busy, I’ll be heading out on the road alone this time,” Bamford says of the tour that will take him through Ontario and into Quebec, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, eventually returning out west in March. “We’re actually living in an RV at the moment as we’re building the house, but we’re looking forward to it. It’s great to be back in the Lacombe area again. Canada has been my home since I was five and it’s the greatest place in the world.”
After Bamford finishes the Canadian tour, he’s off to Australia for a handful of dates and a short reunion with his father.
The Neon Smoke tour hits the Chrysler Theatre on Friday night (January 26). A handful of tickets are still available from the box office or online.
