Brampton, Ontario singer songwriter Alessia Cara will be performing at Caesars Windsor on July 2 for an all-ages show. The singer, most known for her current hit Scars To Your Beautiful, started her career as a YouTube sensation before signing with EP entertainment and Def Jam Records. She’ll be a performer at the Juno Awards this weekend and will also appear at the annual Wango Tango concert near Los Angeles in May, but no other concerts, other than Windsor and Mashantucket, Connecticut have been announced.
She started posting covers on her YouTube channel at the age of 13, but started to gain popularity when she posted a cover of Justin Timberlake’s Mirrors. Her first single, Here, premiered on The FADER on April 27th, 2015, and blew up soon after. Just four months later, the song racked up 18 million Spotify streams in addition to 4.5 million views on its official video.
In August 2015, Cara leaked her first EP, titled Four Pink Walls. Each song, including Here, was accompanied by a video. Her debut album, Know-It-All was released world-wide on November 13, 2015.
Regardless of the immediate success, she’s still a bashful, small-town girl.
“You don’t think you’re ever going to end up here from Brampton, Ontario, Canada,” she said in a press release for the album. “Instead, you think, Who’s going to see me? I can’t wrap my head around everything that’s happened: the chemistry with Sebastian, the producers, the label. Def Jam got what I am trying to do: I want my music to be cool and reflective of my influences –Drake, Amy Winehouse, Ed Sheeran– but still new. Def Jam gave me the opportunity to say something meaningful and positive without being preachy. I didn’t expect everything to feel so natural and organic. And I can’t believe how quickly it’s going.”
Tickets range from $28.25-73.45 and are on sale Sat. April 8. Presales begin Sun. April 2. www.caesars.com
