A Windsor show has been added to Anvil’s 2018 Pounding The Pavement Tour on June 28 when the Canadian metal icons perform at The Back Stage with local thrashers Thy Kingdom Slum.
The band, best known for their outlandish 2008 documentary film “Anvil! The Story Of Anvil”, start the new tour May 2 in Buffalo, New York, which takes them coast-to-coast through the US and into Quebec and Ontario.
Anvil released their new album “Pounding The Pavement” in January through heavy metal label SPV/Steamhammer as a digipak version (+1 bonus track and poster), 2LP gatefold colored version, download and stream.
Anvil were formed in Toronto in 1978 by childhood friends Steve “Lips” Kudlow (vocals/guitar) and Robb Reiner (drums). Both came from Jewish families and had been playing music together since their teens. To date, the band has released 16 full length studio albums, one epic live album recorded in 1989 and three compilation albums.
When they started, Anvil were an up and coming heavy metal band touring the world and respected by some of the biggest stars in the business. But instead of reaching superstardom, Anvil faded into obscurity. They came home to Toronto, took day jobs to pay the bills, and picked up gigs where they could. And now, 40 years into their career, Anvil is still living the dream.
The programmatic album title “Pounding The Pavement” is a synonym for the consistently serious challenge of ensuring Anvil’s financial survival. Kudlow says: “I feel nothing could describe the way we’ve been working for the past forty years better than ‘Pounding The Pavement’. ANVIL have tried for four decades to earn enough money to survive and continue to make music.”
On the Pounding The Pavement Tour, founding members Kudlow and Reiner will be joined by bassist Chris Robertson, who joined the band in 2014.
Support act Thy Kingdom Slum are a newer Windsor band that just released their debut EP A History of Dissent last year. Check out our glowing review of the TKS EP here.
Tickets for the Windsor show are $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the show. They can be purchased at The Back Stage at 1530 Langlois Ave, Windsor, ON.
