The Caboto Club in Windsor recently played host to the Rose City Comic Convention, and it was a sight to behold! The hall was packed from wall to wall with fans of all ages, dressed in the most spectacular costumes of their favorite fictional characters, ranging from cosmic adventurers to superheroes and villains.
This event was organized by a trio of passionate individuals, Tony Gray, Kevin Simone, and Chantelle Wigle, to raise funds for the Windsor-Essex Humane Society. And what a success it was! With over 1,000 paid attendees, it’s safe to say that they surpassed their expectations.
The convention featured some of the biggest names in the comic book industry, including Jason Fabok, a St. Clair College graduate who worked on Batman and Justice League, Keith Pollard from Detroit, who worked on Thor and Fantastic Five, and Windsor filmmaker Gavin Booth, who worked on Scarehouse. The convention also boasted a star-studded lineup of television and movie actors, sports figures, and other celebrities.
Fans had the chance to meet and greet with Leilani Shiu, aka Teeka the Jawa, who starred in Disney+’s hit series The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Obi-Wan Kenobi, Chad Rook of Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, Sarah Booth of Three Pines, and pro-wrestling champ Rhino, among others.
But the convention wasn’t just about meeting celebrities and comic book creators. It was also an opportunity for fans to showcase their creativity and love for their favorite fictional characters. The upper hall was lined with vendors selling handcrafted figurines, antiques, movie props, and comic books from DC, Marvel, and more.
When asked about the turnout, organizer Chantelle Wigle said, “We were a bit worried with only 100 presold tickets, but the line-up around the corner put all that to bed.” And what a turnout it was! Fans from all over came together to celebrate their love for comics, anime, and television.
Rose City Comic Convention was a roaring success that left attendees and organizers alike beaming with pride. It was a chance for people to express their creativity, meet like-minded individuals, and raise money for a good cause. We can’t wait to see what they have in store for us next year!
