Creed Gets an Open Reception in Detroit and Takes Everyone Higher

Creed returned to Detroit in a big way Wednesday, November 20th when they brought their “Are You Ready?” tour to Little Caesars Arena with guests 3 Doors Down and Mammoth WVH. With the huge success of this summer’s “Summer Of 99” tour, it only made sense to add another 20 arena dates for this fall with Detroit on the list having hosted the band a mere few months ago at Pine Knob Music Theatre.

For guitarist Mark Tremonti, Detroit is always special having been born in the city and growing up in Grosse Pointe before moving to Florida as a teenager. The packed house at LCA showed their appreciation loudly and the band gave them their money’s worth tearing through a 16-song set that featured plenty of pyrotechnics and fan favorites as well as the tour debut of Unforgiven.

Singer Scott Stapp knew how to work the crowd and gave a lot of positive banter between songs saying at one point, “If you talk to the person next to you, you probably agree on 90% of what you want from life, so why let the 5 or 10% divide you?”

At one point Tremonti offered to give his guitar to the fan who rocked the hardest. The lucky fan was a young boy named Noah who had the privilege of walking onto the stage to receive his treasured souvenir of the show.

There was a shout-out to veterans and a request for everyone to support mental health before performing the powerful “What’s This Life For”. The set ended with two of their biggest hits, Arms Wide Open, with Scott Stapp encouraging everyone to wave their cell phone lights in the air, and the uplifting anthem, Higher. A two-song encore featured One Last Breath, with the audience nearly drowning out the band with their singing, and the final song My Sacrifice.

Openers 3 Doors Down and Mammoth WVH put on stellar performances to get everyone pumped up. 3 Doors Down has a 25-year history of performing with Creed, and Mammoth WVH, Eddie Van Halen’s son Wolfgang, was a member of Mark Tremonti’s band for a few years and Tremonti is a big supporter. It was a great night of rock music that left everyone in attendance feeling just a little bit higher when it was over.
