LiUNA! Bluesfest Windsor has announced the first major performer for the festival. Hitting the stage on Thursday, July 12 is the hard rock/funk band Extreme, known widely around the world for their international hit song More Than Words.

Grammy-nominated Extreme, one of the most successful rock acts of the late 1980s and 1990s, have sold over 10 million albums worldwide. They have released six studio albums, plus a greatest hit set and a recent live DVD since their formation in 1985. The band had initially described their music as ‘Funky Metal’, but it would evolve much more in the mid-90s by blending classic rock influences with post-grunge and alternative rock.

Extreme’s popularity is fueled by guitar virtuoso Nuno Bettencourt’s signature style, Gary Cherone’s resonant vocals and socially conscious lyrics, Pat Badger’s rock-solid bass, and the hard-hitting Kevin Figueiredo on drums. Their unwavering songcraft and diverse musical approaches have earned the band multi-platinum albums with chart topping hits and sold-out tours all over the globe.

Bettencourt is an accomplished solo artist having recorded with Janet Jackson on the hit single “Black Cat” and as Rihanna’s touring guitarist. Cherone is an accomplished solo act as well, having among other things, recorded one album and a tour with Van Halen and he received critical accolades for his work with the band Hurtsmile.

LiUNA! Bluesfest Windsor takes place July 12 to 15 at Riverfront Festival Plaza. Early bird ticket sales begin February 9. More band announcements and ticket prices are expected on the same day, with the complete lineup being released on February 21.
