The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor was the place to be this past Saturday (August 5, 2023) as Incubus took fans on a killer trip down memory lane. Playing to a crowd eager for some good ol’ rock vibes, they didn’t disappoint.
Kicking things off, Incubus got right into it with “Magic Medicine”. It felt like they had a clear plan: remind fans of the good times. We got to jam to classics like “Anna Molly” and the always catchy “Nice to Know You”. Their take on The Beatles’ “Come Together” was a cool touch, adding their own spin to a timeless track. By the time they wrapped up the main set and circled back for their encore with “Vitamin” and the fan-favourite “Drive”, it was clear that Incubus still knows how to rock a show.
The band was solid, including fill-in bassist Nicole Row, who is temporarily replacing Ben Kenney. Vocalist Brandon Boyd was on the money. His dynamic stage swagger stole the show.
What’s worth noting is how they mostly stuck to their older hits from albums like ‘Make Yourself’ and ‘Morning View’. It seemed they gave their newer stuff from 2011 and 2017 a pass this time around, but no one in the crowd seemed to mind. If anything, it was a treat to hear those older tunes live.
Starting the show was LA rockers Badflower. These guys have an infectious energy. Their set, though short, packed a punch. Songs like “Ghost” showed depth, while jams like “Johnny Wants to Fight” got the crowd moving. By the time they closed out with “30”, it was clear: Badflower isn’t just another opening act, they’ve got the chops to be headliners.
