A special rock and roll check presentation from the annual Jeff Burrows Drum Marathon saw six local charities receive equal shares of more than $30,000. The event, broadcast over YouTube this year, was presented by LiUNA 625 on Sept. 23, 2020.
Despite the pandemic and several changes to the event date and format, the much needed money was raised in support of local offices of Canadian Mental Health Association, House of Sophrosyne, Maryvale Adolescent and Family Services, Harmony in Action, In Honour of The Ones We Love and St. Clair College Scholarship Fund. LiUNA 625 distributed the funds through their organization’s fundraising branch, Champions For Change, on behalf of Burrows. Representing LiUNA 625 were Jeff Burrows, Community Relations Director, Rob Petroni, Business Manager and Bill Moreland, Secretary Treasurer.
The Jeff Burrows Drum Marathon is an annual event where Burrows, drummer for popular Canadian rock band The Tea Party, jams for 24 hours with friends, fellow musicians and local bands, to raise funds for local charities. This year the event was reduced to a 12 hour “1/2 marathon” because of COVID-19 restrictions.
A future fundraising event has been planned this month on the Bluesfest Windsor YouTube channel for a streaming concert featuring Leave Those Kids Alone on Oct. 31. It will be a fundraiser for the Canadian Mental Health Association and Maryvale in support of teen mental health initiatives. Businesses interested in supporting the event should contact LiUNA 625.
