Kitchener Ontario’s JJ Wilde brought her All My Vices tour to London Music Hall this past Thursday, November 21st with special guests Vancouver alt-pop duo Fionn.
It was an all-ages show; quite literally, people of all ages were in attendance. It was a less-than-capacity crowd, but they made up for it with tons of enthusiasm. The 2021 Juno winner for Rock Album of the Year puts on a great show as does her band and she has the music to back it up. Her latest release, All My Vices, was well represented with half a dozen songs in the set including fan favorite Arizona which began with a mesmerizing bass/keyboard intro.
The one thing you can always count on with a JJ Wilde show is it’s never dull. Her band which includes her cousin Dan Bossenberry and childhood friend JD Smigelski on guitars, loves to jam, running back and forth around the stage constantly engaging each other in dramatic fashion . There is always tons of energy and you can see they clearly love playing live.
The main set finished with her biggest hit, The Rush, then JJ returned and invited opening act Fionn on stage to perform a cover of Piece of My Heart. The night ended with another of her more popular songs, Best Boy.
Vancouver sister duo Fionn was the support for this tour and impressed me with their sound. I wasn’t sure what to expect as I wasn’t familiar with their music and they’re listed as folk/pop, but I think they’re a little bit cooler and edgier than that label sounds. Their latest single Snake Behaviour has a very cool vibe and definitely rocks. They also performed a very impressive cover of The Cranberries Dreams and talked about their Celtic roots. I’m sure Dolores O’Riordan is looking down smiling.
