When the gang from Riverfront Theatre Company bring the world of Dr. Seuss alive this weekend, you know it’ll be the best grickily gructus you’ve ever gluppity-glupped. YQG Rocks attended a rehersal and was able to capture a couple preview pics of a couple stars from this wonderful show.
As one of the most performed shows in North America, Seussical is a fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza and our friends at Riverfront Theatre Company are excited to bring this theatrical feast of fantasy to the Olde Walkerville Theatre Friday to Sunday, May 25-27.
Cast members will bring to life all our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, The Cat in the Hat, Gertrude McFuzz, lazy Mayzie and a little boy with a big imagination named Jojo. The colorful characters transport us from the Jungle of Nool to the Circus McGurkus to the invisible world of the Whos.
The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.
Director and choreographer Elena Holowitz will be creating all the visual magic, while music director Jeffrey Gartshore tickles our ears.
The play, based on Stephen Flaherty’s book Seussical, will run at the Old Walkerville Theatre May 25 and 26 at 7 pm and Sunday May 27 at 2 pm. Admission is $15 for adults and $10 for students. For more about Riverfront Theatre Company, visit their website.
