Serena-RyderOne of Canada’s most passionate singers is coming to The Chrysler Theatre this weekend. Serena Ryder, the Multi-Platinum Canadian singer-songwriter who is currently on the road with a US Summer Tour, will be making her only Canadian summer stop in Windsor on Sunday, July 22.

Ryder is on the road supporting her latest album Utopia and recently released her new single, “Famous (feat. Simon Ward of The Strumbellas),” produced by GRAMMY-winning producer Dave Cobb.

Utopia’s sassy soul-pop romp and lead single “Got Your Number”, hatched spontaneously during an exploratory early writing session that found Ryder once again casting aside her guitar and “just goofing around on the drums, just kind of rapping and rhyming and singing weird jazzy stuff” in search of new musical avenues to explore, is but a tantalizing taste of the surprises Serena Ryder has to offer on her new record.

The six-time Juno Award winner and multiple SOCAN No.1 Award recipient has had her songs placed in over 50 TV shows and commercials, including Grey’s Anatomy, VEEP and Suits. Her single “Stompa” is 4x Platinum in Canada and she’s sold over one million singles from her previous releases.

“Stompa” also hit No. 1 at AAA radio in the U.S. for eight weeks (the most weeks at No. 1 since Adele) and landed in the Top 10 at Alternative radio, Hot AC and AC. Ryder has shared the stage with OneRepublic, Kanye West, Sara Bareilles, HAIM, Pitbull and Melissa Ethridge, and has proved herself as a strong live performer with an avid fanbase. It’s clear that listeners feel the same sort of healing in the music as Ryder does when she writes it.

She sat down for a few moments with YQG Rocks and 519 Magazine for an interview before she hits town.
