South Detroit Films and Riggi Media International Inc. are set to unleash a new nightmare on the horror scene with their upcoming psychological thriller, “Avery.” The bone-chilling tale, helmed by writer and director Dan Savoie, is slated to begin production in Spring/Summer 2025, with Windsor and Chatham, Ontario, doubling for Michigan.
The film’s premise revolves around a young girl’s disturbing connection to her serial killer father, known ominously as the Dollmaker. As the story unfolds, audiences will witness the unraveling of Avery’s innocent facade, blurring the lines between victim and villain in what promises to be a heart-stopping cinematic experience.
In a bold move to showcase the region’s raw talent, the production has tapped into a diverse pool of local actors. The cast boasts an intriguing mix of established names and fresh faces, including Jacqui Childs of “Naked News” fame, upcoming Canadian horror princess August Kyss, Jeff Burrows, drummer for The Tea Party, and Brian Vollmer, lead vocalist of the iconic Canadian band Helix.
The titular role of Avery will be brought to life by 9-year-old local newcomer Elora Iera. Her chilling performance in the teaser trailer, shot in the depths of Scarehouse Windsor, has already sent ripples through the horror community.
“Avery” aims to push the boundaries of indie horror with its technical prowess. The film will utilize RED cameras and Dolby 5.1 surround sound technology, promising an immersive experience that will have audiences gripping their seats.
“We’re excited to bring this unique and terrifying story to life,” Savoie told 519. “Our goal is to create a horror experience that will stay with audiences long after they leave the theater.”
In a move to engage the local community and supplement funding, South Detroit Films has launched an Indiegogo campaign. Horror aficionados and indie film supporters can contribute to the project, with perks ranging from behind-the-scenes access to exclusive merchandise and on-set experiences.
As Southwestern Ontario gears up for its close-up in the horror spotlight, “Avery” is poised to make a lasting impact on the genre. With its blend of local talent, cutting-edge technology, and a spine-tingling storyline, this indie chiller might just be the next big thing to keep horror fans up at night.
