Jeff Burrows, #YQG’s local rock star and drummer for critically acclaimed rockers The Tea Party, shared the results of a charity auction he recently held to help support Harmony In Action at a cheque presentation event at the charity’s office on Woodward Avenue today.
“I help because I’m able,” the rocker told YQG Rocks. “Half the battle of helping smaller organizations is getting their name out. There are so many groups in every community that can use a hand but don’t have the advertising dollars. Through small thing like auctions and advertising them on my socials helps the marketing, raising awareness and dollars to support.”
Burrows managed to raise $3,000 for the local charity through a celebrity auction of Tea Party memorabilia, as well as swag and merchandise from other bands. Items in the auction included autographed concert posters, photos, passes, CDs and other rare items from the band’s career.
“I’ve done auctions for the past 15 years or so, with various charitable recipients,” he said. “I give to organizations who don’t receive much funding. I’ve known Anita and Elizabeth at Harmony In Action for a long time and respect what they do for their participants and our community.”
Burrows has been an avid supporter of Harmony In Action for several years. The Windsor-based charity seeks to enrich the lives of adults living with developmental and/or physical challenges, by providing opportunities to succeed through programs like cooking, life skills and physical activities. They also host weekly and monthly recreational and social activities, as well as provide personalize work with individuals to help maintain and/or increase skills, and to encourage personal development.
“We are truly touched that Jeff reached out to us to be the recipient of his charity auction,” says Fundraising Director Anita Riccio Spagnuolo. “These funds will help with our ongoing activities and outings for our participants. Thank you Jeff. You really are a rock star!”
Burrows is known throughout the Windsor-Essex area for his philanthropy, which culminates in an annual holiday concert with the band The S’Aints every December at Caesars Windsor. Meanwhile, The Tea Party are off to Australia in March supporting rock band Live for a couple concerts down under and are gearing up for the release of some new music in the Spring, with a possible Fall tour.
