Pop rockers Third Eye Blind took the stage at Caesars Windsor this past Friday March 31 for a fun filled night in front of an eager sold out crowd.
Right from the opening chords of Can You Take Me the main floor crowd was on their feet and they didn’t sit down the entire night. Frontman Stephan Jenkins performed the first few songs on a platform at the back of the stage giving the band a big presence. The Colosseum was drenched in fog before the band even came out giving the dynamic light show and lasers an extraterrestrial feel at times.
Jenkins relayed a story of crossing the border from Buffalo for the show and said he forgot his passport. He said the Canadian customs officer said to him, “Oh it happens, it’s ok, come on in” I doubt it happened exactly this way, but his point to the crowd was taken. Canadians are lovely people and the band was happy to be here. They haven’t played a lot of Canadian dates over the years, particularly not in Ontario so we got a bit of a treat.
Jenkins also said they planned to play songs from a new album for this night but apologized that he didn’t finish the lyrics. Instead he said, “The reason why we’re here is, there is no reason, we’re just here”. He also told the crowd that this year they had made an unplugged record for the first time and they really enjoyed that. They then proceeded to do a lengthy acoustic set at the front of the stage that was well received. In the middle of the acoustic set they did a short cover of Your Love by The Outfield.
The band has a great live energy and people in the crowd were dancing and singing along to most of the songs. I’m surprised they don’t play more shows in Canada. They certainly seem to have the fans for it!
The show clocked in at just less than two hours and they covered songs from across their entire discography including quite a few from their first album. The main set finished with a couple of their most popular hits, Jumper and Semi-Charmed Life before returning to the stage for a couple of numbers for the encore.
