Caesars Windsor was buzzing Thursday Night (Nov. 29) when three high octane bands ripped their way through a night of hard rock and heavy metal. Three Days Grace brought The Outsider tour to Windsor with special guests Bad Wolves and Nothing More.
Three Days Grace had a huge stage show, with ramps, risers, video screens and a ton of lights. The show started with the original recording of Bon Jovi’s hit Liivin’ On A Prayer, which gave the lights a chance to reveal the stage to everyone. The band members entered one-by-one and that’s when Bon Jovi came to an immediate halt.
The band ripped through material from their 20-years as a band. Vocalist Matt Walst, who’s been a permanent fixture for five years and two albums, leaves an impression. He bounces around and whips an audience to a frenzy.
Just about anything you’d want to hear was played, including the 2016 one-off cover of Phantogram’s You Don’t Get Me High Anymore. Three Days Grace has been a headliner for years, but this tour looked and felt like it should have been the tour after Life Starts Now – it captured the energy and excitement the band had back in 2009 when they were cranking out continuous radio hits.
Bad Wolves opened the evening with a full force and arsenal of songs like Learn to Live, No Masters, Remember When , and the anticipated live cover of the Cranberries Zombie. Having given the crowd his best, lead singer Tommy Vext was escorted backstage by fellow bandmates at the end of their second last song. He was unable to continue with the show due to an illness, but that didn’t stop the Wolves. The remaining members returned to the stage and asked the crowd if they would be willing to sing Zombie themselves. The place erupted and the band tore through the song with an additional 5,000 lead vocalists accompanying them.
Nothing More brought The Scorpion Tail with them. For anyone at their shows, this is a highlight. The Scorpion Tail is a 400-pound, 14-foot-tall monstrosity that was constructed and conceptualized by the band’s bassist Daniel Oliver. Built from metal scraps including salvaged car and motorcycle parts, the instrument allows the group’s frontman Jonny Hawkins to manipulate his vocals, as well as the guitar and bass. It looked like a Bio-mech Scorpion.
Three Days Grace returns to the area in March when they open for Disturbed in Detroit.
