Zeke MooresWindsor artist Zeke Moores will be sharing his skills in a Mould Making and Casting Workshop taking place in Iqaluit, Nunavut. From July 7 to July 9, 2018, the workshop will introduce mould-making and casting techniques and will enable artists, especially carvers and jewelers, to reproduce original objects and create multiples.

Moores is participating in a newly formed partnership between the Nunavut Arts & Crafts Association (NACA) and the Arts Council Windsor & Region. This North and South collaboration will create an opportunity for the creative development of artists through professional development workshops in Windsor Essex and Nunavut. Artists from our region will be invited to the North and artists from the North will be invited to visit Windsor to teach various workshop(s) and opportunity to share their art practice.

“We are committed to working with NACA towards developing an ongoing partnership so that the Northernmost and Southernmost artists in Canada can share and learn from each others’ unique practices. We hope to host an artist from Nunavut in the fall”, said Julie Tucker, ACWR’s Director of Public Programs and Advocacy.

Moores will share his experience with Windsor region and will be taking over the ACWR’s Instagram account, @artscouncilregion. Moores will be posting pictures of the community, culture and the workshop.

Zeke Moores explores the social and political economies of everyday objects and our complex relationships to them. By relying on traditional and industrial methods of manufacturing, Moores literal and metaphoric “recasts” seemingly unimportant mass-produced objects and everyday commodities; questioning their initial creation and the ideologies behind them.

Moores has a BFA from Nova Scotia College of Art and Design, and an MFA from the University of Windsor Ontario. He has exhibited nationally and internationally at such institutions as the

Memphis Metal Museum (TN), The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery (St. John’s, NL), Grounds for Sculpture (NJ), Art Mur (Montreal, QC), and the Contemporary Art Institute of Detroit (MI). Moores has taught at the University of Windsor and Brock University. He currently teaches at the York University and is currently collaborating with Art Mur (Montreal QC).
