Two Windsor-based theatre companies have joined forced to produce a sketch comedy show written by a Windsor-based comedy group. Bite Me Big Time, which opens 15 July 2022, will be coproduced by Post Productions and Purple Theatre Company, who recently reached a partnership agreement that will see both companies operating out of The Shadowbox Theatre. Speaking of what drew him to the project, director and producer Joey Ouellette says, “I liked the crazy comedy about subjects and situations I’d never seen done before”.
The show, which involves eleven local actors playing multiple roles, is a loosely connected series of sketches about people seeking therapy for unusual problems regarding animals – some want to be animals, some act like animals, some are in unusual relationships with animals. “This play doesn’t quite fit into the Post Productions’ brand,” explains producer Fay Lynn. “But we had so much fun reading the script that we wanted to see it produced, and it provided a good excuse to coproduce with Purple Theatre Company.”
Producers from both companies believe the sketches in Bite Me Big Time are unlike anything Windsor audiences will have seen on stage. “The show is a unique combination of naughty and nice that I’ve never encountered before,” says Ouellette. “Unusual ideas, twists and takes on familiar subjects provoke unexpected laughs! It’s a positive show about relationships — when do we ever get to see that?” Producer Michael K. Potter agrees, saying “The sketches in Bite Me Big Time celebrate difference, which is a major theme for Post Productions. It’s not only funny in surprising ways about surprising things, it’s also non-judgmental in a way I’m not sure I understand”.
