Jessica Wilson is from Welland, Ontario, but the singer is actually a graduate of St. Clair College’s Music Theater Performance program and has a strong Windsor presence. Some might remember her in the starring role as Veronica Sawyer in the Windsor production of Heathers – The Musical earlier this year or as Janet Weiss in the 2015 version of The Rocky Horror Show.

On her debut EP Sincerely, listeners are given a little peak into the potential of this powerhouse vocalist and songwriter with five extremely well-produced and intelligent tracks. It’s a very upbeat collection of songs with touches of Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift, Meghan Trainor and a little Kimberly Perry (The Band Perry) in the mix. In fact, it sounds much like Swift’s transition albums when she migrated from country to pop. Sincerely has that same pop flavour with a down-home country honesty – and that formula was a game changer for Swift, so Wilson is on the right track with this EP.

Producer Kyle Whittaker captured the essence of what Wilson has to offer at this point, giving standout tracks like Love Your Life Away and Love Song a huge full sound. It’s very clear that her training from St. Clair College has paid off. Her vocal presentation is clean and clear, with strong emphasis in all the right places. With the right boost and some high profile guidance from the right people, Wilson could very well be Canada’s answer to Taylor Swift.

Sincerely is a great start for this rising Canadian pop singer and she’s only going to get better with time. Her busy summer tour continues into September with several dates in the Niagara region, including the Niagara Falls Hard Rock Café and the Niagara Music Awards.
Wilson has won several contests for her singing, including ones from the Shaw Festival and Ryan Seacrest, as well as previous nominations at the Niagara Music Awards (nominees for the 2017 awards have yet to be announced).
