Annie 1

Hannah Dick stars as Annie in the 2024 Little Tomato Children’s Theatre production.

The Little Tomato Children’s Theatre is set to captivate audiences with their upcoming production of the beloved musical “Annie Jr.” at the Cardinal Carter Catholic School Auditorium from April 19-21. Under the direction of Ruth Brown, this heartwarming tale promises to be a memorable experience for all ages.

“Annie Jr.” tells the story of a spunky orphan girl who embarks on a journey to find her parents during the Great Depression. With its iconic songs like “Tomorrow” and “It’s the Hard Knock Life,” the musical has captured the hearts of audiences worldwide since its Broadway debut in 1977. The story has also been adapted into several successful movie versions, including the 1982 film starring Aileen Quinn and the more recent 2014 remake featuring Quvenzhané Wallis.

Director Ruth Brown expressed her enthusiasm for bringing this timeless classic to the stage, stating, “Annie has always been a bucket list for me, and I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to direct such a talented group of young performers. These kids are amazing and will steal your hearts with their incredible performances.”

Brown praised the dedication and hard work of the young cast, emphasizing their ability to quickly absorb direction and bring their characters to life. “I never had any idea who will play what roles until auditions,” she said. “I let the audition lead the way, and it always surprises me how talented these kids are until they show you what they’ve got.”

The Little Tomato Children’s Theatre prides itself on providing a safe and inclusive space for children to explore their creativity and build lasting friendships. “Theatre is like any sports team,” Brown explained. “You are really missed when not there, and you’ve let the whole team down. Here, there is a place for all, even the athletic and smart kids.”

Brown also highlighted the importance of the musical’s themes, particularly hope and resilience. “I hope very much that all who see and those who have been a part of this show always remember two things: firstly, that the sun will come out tomorrow, and secondly, that you are never fully dressed without a smile!”

With music direction by Nola McQueen, choreography from Melissa Mack and a cast brimming with talent and enthusiasm, “Annie Jr.” promises to be a delightful experience for the whole family. Don’t miss this opportunity to witness the magic of live theatre and support the budding stars of the Little Tomato Children’s Theatre.

Tickets for “Annie Jr.” are available now, and the show runs from April 19-21 at the Cardinal Carter Catholic School Auditorium in Leamington.
