Windsor’s Post Productions Theatre Company presents True West, Sam Shepard’s celebrated, funny, and high-energy play, at Sho Art, Spirit, & Performance on October 13, 14, 19, 20 & 21, 2017.
True West, the story of brothers Austin and Lee, is set in the kitchen of their mother’s home 40 miles east of Los Angeles, where Austin is house-sitting. Lee bullies his way into staying at the house and uses his pushy con-man tactics to take over the screenplay Austin is pitching in Hollywood. The brothers find themselves forced to cooperate in the creation of a story that will make or break both their lives. As the brothers learn to live and work with each other, their roles as successful writer and nomadic drifter are reversed — and each man becomes what he had both envied and loathed about the other.
Don’t miss this play, which the San Francisco Chronicle called “clear, funny, naturalistic. It’s also opaque, terrifying, surrealistic. If that sounds contradictory, you’re on to one aspect of Shepard’s winning genius: the ability to make you think you’re watching one thing while at the same time he’s presenting another”.
