9 to 5: The Musical

Cardinal Music Productions presents “9 to 5 The Musical”on the Main Stage of The Green Room Theatre at École secondaire E.J. Lajeunesse for six performances from September 22 to October 1.

Based on the hit movie with music and lyrics by country music legend Dolly Parton, “9 to 5 The Musical” is a story of friendship and revenge in the 80s. In addition to appearing on the film soundtrack, the hit song was the centerpiece of Parton’s 1980 “9 to 5 and Odd Jobs” album, and for a time, became somewhat of an anthem for office workers in the U.S.

The song garnered Parton an Academy Award nomination and four Grammy Award nominations, winning her the awards for “Best Country Song” and “Best Country Vocal Performance, Female”.

The plot shines a spotlight on the plight of women in the workplace in the late 1970s. Pushed to the boiling point, three female co-workers concoct a plan to get even with the boss. In a turn of events, Violet, Judy and Doralee (played in the movie by Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda and Dolly Parton) live out their wildest fantasy — giving their boss the boot! While Hart remains “otherwise engaged,” the women give their workplace a dream makeover, taking control of the company that had always kept them down.

A large cast will be bringing these iconic characters to life: Lindsay Norris as Violet Newstead, Regan White as Judy Bernly, Nina Fasullo and Kaitlyn Karns as Doralee Rhodes, Joseph Anthony Cardinal as Franklin Hart, Carla Gyemi as Roz Keith, Owen Bortolin as Joe, Allen Levack as Dwayne Rhodes and Bob Enright, Kristin McMahon as Missy Hart, Sydney White as Maria Delgado, Julie Walton as Margaret Pomerance, Meredith Garswood as Josh Newstead, John Garswood as Russell Tinsworthy, Caroline Garswood as the Detective, Anita Carlini as the Doctor, Charlotte Salisbury as the Candy Striper, Shelby Olmsted as the New Employee, and an ensemble that features Nataline Cardinal, Tracey Olmstead, Stephanie Cragg and Lizz Beith.
